Resumes on the Radio…Any Word is a Good Word

This weekend, as I was driving along, I heard some interesting ads on the radio. Stations are allowing listeners to post an audio clip of their resume as a commercial. 30 seconds to let others know your experience, skills and why they should hire you. If you are interested, you could go the stations web site and find their full resume.

This is a great idea for people who have been looking for a job but have run out of options through the typical efforts…emails, job posting sites, craigslist, social networking sites…for the most part because your ears are already tuned in to listen to what is coming out of your speakers. If those kids in the back were just a little quieter. :)

We’ve all heard that “Internet killed the radio star” speech before and yes, Internet has taken the top spot before all other forms of advertising. But unlike advertising your web site on the radio, this is a bit different. Most radio users are listening to their favorite stations and have them programed into their cars. So when playing a commercial and then directing people back to the stations site for more details, that part registers with most users. For instance, the station I listen to is actually also plugged into my favorites on my computer. So this is an easy step for me. Even if I don’t remember that I heard the commercial, I go to the station’s site and see it plastered on the home page.

Cool idea.
