Flash Coming to Android in Late Summer

Droid users – good news! Two major software updates are on their way for the Droid, and both are on track to seriously improve performance and functionality.

The first update, which has already rolled out to some Verizon phones (mine included), will update the devices to the Android 2.2 operating system (aka froyo). Here are just a few of the enhancements these updates will bring, according to Verizon:

  • New security options including remote device wipe and device lock,
    password complexity, and minimum password length.
  • New tips, shortcuts, and assistance from a home-screen widget help
    users better navigate their phones.
  • Easily switch between the eight most recent applications.
  • Bluetooth® voice dialing displays your verbal instructions and
    repeats them back.
  • Switch between letters, numbers, and symbols with a
    touch-screen swipe.
  • Camera’s video mode now uses LED flash, and on-screen buttons
    make it easy to control zoom, white balance, focus, exposure, and
    geo-tagging.
  • The second update will, GET THIS, bring Adobe Flash 10.1 to our Droids! Yayyy! Flash will be available in the Android marketplace in late summer, so get ready for optimal web browsing with our devices. You’ll get an automatic prompt on your phone, announcing a “System Update” and requiring restart.
