What If Social Sites Went Away, What Would You Do?

I have been thinking about this and I was asked this very question the other day, “What would you do if social sites just went away?” Just imagine that all the social networking sites go away due to lack of funding or for some other crazy reason. What would you do…what would I do? Are we serious about social media enough to innovate or come up with another strategy to use social media to stay connected with our customers, prospects, employees, investors, etc.?  Seriously, have you thought about it?

Here is the way I look at it…..As long as you can articulate the “why” behind your current social media strategies and tactics, you can (really) identify your audiences, and understand how your existing strategies tie to your organization’s business goals, and then you should be able to develop new ways to engage with your stakeholders both online and offline. The key is how the strategy was planned in the first place. Social media is not about the tools or platforms, it’s about the relationships you built online and offline.
