Twitter Cuts Down on Spam

If you’re a power Twitter user – lord knows you’ve had some experience with the often overwhelming spam accounts. I often wonder, why do they bother? Spam is hardly an effective marketing tool – but they just keep on coming with the “Click here to make $1,000 a day on Twitter!” messages.

The good news? Twitter has been working on the Spam issue for quite some time, and they’ve cut down the overall volume to just 1% of Tweets! They posted the data on their blog yesterday, and Mashable outlines that while it’s not quite clear how Twitter battles the spam monster, there are multiple ways for users to report spam accounts, including sending a tweet to @spam, and clicking the “report as spam” link on suspicious profiles.

Personally, I’ve definitely seen a reduction in the noticeable amount of spam traffic coming through Twitter. So bravo Twitter, keep up the good work in protecting us from the dreaded s-word!
