Twitter’s New Geodata
It’s all about Location…Location…Location
Twitter platform developers have been doing innovative work with location for some time now, and finally there is a plan to launch a new feature which makes Twitter truly location-aware. Developers will be able to add latitude and longitude to any tweet. This is going to make it possible to tie a location to tweets which is a big deal for us marketers. It means that consumers, businesses and search engines will be able to sort Twitter traffic by place/location. One of the biggest advantages to this new geo locator function that will launch soon is for consumers’ looking for a specific service in a specific area. Right now it’s possible to search Twitter for specific keywords to find a service, but consumers get a worldwide search that may not be relevant to the area they are searching for. That’s not very helpful for a business that serves consumers within a specific geography or vice versa for the consumers searching for a specific product. Another great reason Twitter’s new Geodata will be excellent for is it will make it simpler for consumers specific to your region to find you. When consumers search Twitter in your geographic area, the results will make it easy to see what their options are. Twitter will release the new geo-location to platform developers before they add the feature to Twitter.com, Stay tuned for the BIG Twitter Geodata release! I am really looking forward to the new tool as a marketer stand point.
