The Future of MySpace

Facebook has taken over…and MySpace has taken a backseat to social media. In a recent study conducted by Experian Hitwise in September, MySpace has taken the biggest dip in visitors but continues to be the number 2 social media site out there. So, our question is, what is the future of MySpace? What are the head marketers and creative teams at MySpace planning to do to bring back the once King of all Social Media?

Experts are saying MySpace must look to the past if it wants a future. Meaning that there were very apparent reasons that users flocked to MySpace such as custom background designs, viral widgets and the first world-wide social presence for teens and young adults.  Facebook was initially created for college students but was changed later on as MySpace continued to grow in user base. While both sites appeal to teens and college students, adults 35-54 primarily use Facebook giving Facebook a business marketing advantage given that 35-54 year olds are the top online spending audience with the highest HHI average. Facebook has also become an online networking community.

In terms of extras these two social big dogs offer, Facebook leads the pack with the amount of applications that can be found and used as well as the B2C marketing opportunities. So, Facebook is leading but can MySpace catch up??
