Ten Post Ideas to Increase Traffic to Your Travel Blog

People love blog posts that are chock full of useful information, catchy tidbits & lists galore. When it comes to travel blogs, there are some great ways to create compelling posts that will attract attention and rack up those linkbacks!

So check out our list of the top 10 topics/blog ideas to increase traffic and keep readers coming back for more!

1.    Offer a list – Top Ten Free Things to do in Delaware, or Top Ten Travel Must-Haves (see our title as another example :) ). As any good blogger will tell you, these types of posts, when well-researched and interesting, will always keep readers coming back for more.

2.    Interview or do a QA with someone well-respected or popular in your region or niche. Find an interesting and well-known community figure or icon, and ask engaging, unique questions. Keep it fun & edgy!

3.    Lead readers to other blogs you love – create a list of the sites you would use when researching your region or planning a trip. Introduce your readers to fellow bloggers!

4.    Link to & showcase compelling content you have on social sites – tell a story using Flickr photos, YouTube video & user generated content (Trip Advisor, etc.).

5.    Highlight eco trends & environmental efforts in your community. Outline all the ways your area is “going green”.

6.    Run a unique contest – travel package giveaways are great, but try something a little different to spark some serious interest! Offer a training session with a local golf pro and some personalized balls, a branded iPod, or a case of a famous regional wine or beer.

7.    Offer specialized advice or specific information for a niche audience – that’ll earn you creds with the group, and get you some guaranteed linkbacks. Tips for Maintaining Your Surfboard, How to Pick the Perfect Ear of Corn, Where to Find Ethiopian Food in Boston, etc.

8.    Tell a funny story. Humor writing is a toughie, but if you can, do it! Make it hilarious, and you’ll get links galore, maybe even a Fark mention!

9.    Jump on the trends. Find out what the hottest goings on are or the hippest trends popular in your area, and research away. Share all the juicy info with your readers, and earn a rep for being on top of the latest.

10.    Feature a user generated content contest – have readers submit photos, videos, etc., and showcase the winner’s assets on your blog, website, and other social media channels. A great way to boost exposure for local partners and form relationships.

Utilize any of these ten ideas, you’re sure to hit on a winner and drive some major link traffic to your blog! So what are you waiting for? Type away!
