Importance Of Social Ranking

You may have read my blog post a few weeks ago on Hub Spot’s blog grader, and the importance of knowing where your blog stands online, but I want to take it to next level and talk about the importance of social ranking on ALL your social profiles. Social ranking is important because it can be thought of as a measurement of one’s influence as far as social networks go. As the saying has always been “You are only as strong as your network.” With that mindset, our social ranking is showing how strong we are when it comes to our network or networks. In the business world, social ranking can be especially useful. For example, through a social ranking system anyone can find out who is the ‘authority’ in a field. By having a strong social rank you are showing others that you are well networked and that to an extent you have others that can ‘vouch’ or recommend you. To use social ranking effectively it is important that you understand the full concept of it and don’t play the numbers game. What is meant by the numbers game is you are making network connections at a high rate, but not following up on them. A good comparison is someone that buys a lot of books but doesn’t read any of them in comparison to someone who may not buy as many books but has read them all. Here is a list of a few Social Ranking Sites you may find helpful with keeping track of  how your social profiles rank online:

Facebook Grader- Facebook Grader is used to grade business pages and user profiles to see how your profile is ranked against others.    http://facebook.grader.com/

Twitter Grader- A tool to measure your power and reach on twitter.   http://twitter.grader.com/

Twitturly- Twitt(URL)y- Twitturly tracks all the links on Twitter and shows you the most popular links.(The more popular the links we tweet, the better our twitter will rank)   http://twitturly.com

Technorati- Helps us see how many people are actually blogging about us and also lets us compare our results to other blogs.   http://technorati.com/

Press Release Grader- Evaluates your press release and provides a marketing effectiveness score. This score is based upon basic factors from public relations experts including the language and content of the release, plus advanced factors from Internet marketing experts such as links and search engine optimization characteristics.   http://pressrelease.grader.com/

Blog Grader- Grades based on effectiveness of your blog and how your traffic compares to the millions of other blogs.  http://blog.grader.com/

Personality Grader- Evaluates your online personality. By these categories:

  • Frequency – This is a measure of your rate of content production and social interaction. The grader analyzes the types of social actions you engage in to determine if they are accidental, regulated, regular or repeated.
  • Sentiment – Using computational linguistics the grader is able to analyze the tone of the content you produce for the Web. The grader trained it’s system on a corpus that represents the different structures of text available on the social web. It also built some biometric functionality into this part of the algorithm to analyze the facial emotions present in the photos you’ve uploaded to sites like Facebook and Flickr.
  • Reach – This is a measurement of the size of your social network, in terms of both first and Nth-order strong and weak connections. The algorithm also takes into account the amount of influence you wield over the other users in your social graph, in terms of how often you cause them to take specific actions. Borrowing from the field of social psychology, the grader is able to determine how much prestige your node represents to your social group.
  • Intelligence – The intelligence metric uses a combination of several different methods. Using a modified application of the Stanford-Binet test, the grader estimates a traditional intelligence quotient score. Then the grader temper that number by analyzing the Flesch-Kincaid grade level of the content you’re producing online.       http://personality.grader.com/

Viralogy- Measures and ranks your social influence online blogging.   http://www.viralogy.com/

website grader is a more accurate configuration, the personality grader doesn’t even read the sites correctly, viralogy’s traffic reports don’t match up to real stats. The twitter grader is fun though.
