Google’s New Social Search

I am sure everyone heard or read last week about Microsoft’s Bing search deals with Twitter and Facebook. Google fired back almost immediately with their own deal – I am sure there were no surprises here. Google also completed their deal with Twitter and, perhaps more importantly, Google announced a new feature: Social Search.

Google’s social search, combines results from your friend’s blogs, Flickr, Twitter, FriendFeed, and a broad variety of other social media sites (so long as your friends have connected their social accounts to their Google profiles) with Google’s regular search results. The feature went live on October 26, 2009.

Once the feature is activated, it will display relevant search results from your social circle at the bottom of the search results page. This could be travel photos from your friends, a recent blog post, a set of status updates, or other information Google pulls. For now, the feature is opt-in; it only affects certain searches, and appears at the bottom of the search results page.
