Get Advice from Facebook Friends via Trip Advisor

While it may seem like Facebook is out to conquer the online landscape and sustain a rep as the only game in town – they still believe in collaboration. Yesterday, it was announced that Facebook and Trip Advisor – the web’s most popular travel review site – had joined forces to launch a new connectivity feature entitled “Trip Friends”.

Trip Advisor users who log on using Facebook Connect will now be able to view and send messages to a list of friends who have visited or lived in a particular destination. This information will be gathered from the “Cities I’ve Visited” application, as well as publicly available profile data.

The feature gives you the option to either post a question to your wall, or send a private message to your friends about the city. It even segments your friends by those who currently live there, those who can advise about the city, and those who have been there. Very, very cool.

As social media continues its evolution, it becomes more and more clear that consumers are far more likely to trust recommendations from friends & relatives over anonymous reviews. Hence the brilliance of this development.

Facebook and Trip Advisor

This isn’t the first time the two sites have worked together. In 2007 they launched the “Cities I’ve Visited” app, which has since become one of Facebook’s most popular, boasting 16 million downloads and 5.5 million active monthly users (according to USA Today).

This development was a terrific move by Trip Advisor, and for Facebook, it widens its reach even further – always a part of their game plan.
