FOX Starting a New Trend With Tweet-Peats?

With the explosive popularity of Twitter, companies of every shape and size are continuously looking for new and innovative ways to use Twitter and capitalize off the micro-blogging service’s growth. We’ve seen everything from Tweet-a-thons to Tweep-stakes and more.

The latest company with a new idea is none other than FOX, TV host to shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, 24 and many more. FOX has launched a new concept called “Tweet-Peats”, where cast and crew members will Tweet live during reruns of their respective shows.

Kicking off the Tweet-Peats will be the insiders from both Glee and Fringe, two prime-time FOX shows. Cast and crew members will “answer fan questions, discuss behind-the-scenes information and tweet about the upcoming season”, according to a recent MediaPost article.

But will this new concept be the hot new trend? Other companies have tried some similar techniques – Hack the Debate even used an integrated Twitter strategy during the presidential debates. Seems like ages ago.

With the popularity of both television and Twitter, there’s potential for the two to work hand in hand. And in an age where multi-tasking is king, watching TV and Twittering simultaneously seems almost natural. But will this work as a successful strategy for the FOX network, sparking more Tweeting by stars and casts alike? We will see, but in the meantime, I’m off to Tweet my thoughts about last night’s Simpsons episode. ;)
