Facebook to Eliminate Boxes, Narrow Size of Custom Tabs

Ahhh, Facebook, my fickle friend.  It’s almost impossible to keep up with with your constant changes. One day a “fan” button, the next day a “like”. One day fan pages, the next day community pages. One day smooth sailing, the next user authentication required. You never know what a new day will bring!

The latest change? Facebook is eliminating the boxes tab within fan pages, and narrowing the size of custom FBML tabs.

According to the alert:

“To make your Page easier to browse, we’re simplifying a couple things: 1. Boxes are going away (including the Boxes tab); 2. All custom tabs will be narrower (520 pixels). This is your chance to preview your Page and make edits as needed before the new layout goes public on August 23.”

They were nice enough to give us some warning. Right now, page admins can see a preview of what the changes will look like live, but visitors cannot see it. The change will likely cut off a significant portion of many custom tabs, so page admins need to be on top of altering code to prepare for the August 23rd change. Don’t delay!
