Blackberry Releases Official Twitter App

All you Blackberry users out there – good news in the Twittersphere! Blackberry released its official Twitter app yesterday, making a whole lot of users mighty happy. According to the Twitter blog, the app includes the following features:

  • Real-time BlackBerry push of Twitter direct messages
  • Camera and photo gallery integration
  • Browser integration for Tweeting links
  • Customizable interface for changing fonts, hiding tool bars, etc.
  • Inbox integration so you can read your Twitter direct messages along side your email and text messages
  • @integration so that if you receive an email or text message which includes an @username, it is linked to the Twitter app profile page
  • Twitter lists integration
  • Notification of @mentions
  • Search for users, content, and trending topics
  • Localized for French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Brazilian Portuguese

What’s the buzz so far? According to Twitter users themselves, reviews are mixed.

As apps abound for the iPhone and Android, many users have complained new & innovative Blackberry apps are much slower to hit the market. The development of hot new apps could determine whether Blackberry manages to keep its position on top of the smartphone market, or lose its share to the newbies on the block.
