Are Consumers Using QR Codes and are they Really Working?
QR codes….they could quite possibly be the perfect example of knowing what something is, but not knowing what it is called. In a nutshell, a QR code, or quick response code, is matrix pattern designed with black squares on top of a white background. These scannable codes typically include some sort of discount or promotion, or as EMarketer puts it, “something to scan with a special app on a smartphone.”
EMarketer recently released data stating that according to research conducted by Chadwick Martin Bailey, a QR code has been scanned by at least 50% of smartphone users. Despite this, it still appears that a shocking 79% of people say that have not heard of a QR code before, but 81% of people can identify what a QR code is.
As to why smartphone users are scanning QR codes, Chadwick Martin Bailey research reveals that 46% of people are just curious as to what they will do and 41% of people are looking for more information on the company, product or specific deal.
Time will only tell if QR codes are something that will be around for the long haul or if they are merely a fading trend. Read the full article here.
