A Personal Touch from Your Blog
So, I like to think that our blog provides our readers with trends, formal statistics, likes, dislikes and a personal touch. Over the past few months, I hear more and more from industry peers about how to blog in a way that gives a reader the real story from the bloggers point of view without over-doing the personal touch but without under-doing it either.
In my opinion, a blog should not be an article of multiple topics and formalized research. A blog should be looked at as an online journal that speaks to its readers with relevance and an opinion to that topic. How personal you want to go should be up to the blogger and where they stand on a political level.
Here are some quick tips, from my opinion, on blogging:
- You have the right to disagree. I tend not to write hasty comments when I blog because I want users to agree to disagree with me and not send hasty comments back.
- You can say “I” as many times as you’d like. I write as if I am the one writing and forming that personal connection with the reader. Many people tend to leave “I” and related words out of the mix but I disagree.
- Don’t be afraid to write like you talk. Notice I started my blog with the word, “So”. I tend to start my conversations that way so I want to bring that across my blog as if I’m talking “to” you and not “at” you.
- If you are blogging one day with not many positive things to say, then please ask readers for their opinions back. Being hasty is not a no-no for everyone, it’s just not what I like to do. That’s just my opinion. But asking readers for their opinions on your comments leaves your blog open ended to discussion and shows that you care if your topic has offended or discouraged others also. Show you care.
