Are You Geek-Chic Looking for Halloween Costume Ideas?

PumpkinHalloween is approaching and for those of you who haven’t figured out what to go as this year, we’ve come up with some ideas that will tickle your office mates, facebook friends and might even rack up some points with the boss. Beware, they might not be scary but tech groupies will flock.

iPhone – This year’s hottest PDA can also be this year’s hottest costume. Cut a big 3 foot by 2 foot cardboard cutout, and paint it to look like your iPhone screen. Or, for a twist, paint it to look like your favorite app! Then tie some string to the top and wear the cutout around your neck. Don some black leggings, and boast to everyone at your bud’s Halloween party – “There’s an app for that.”

Zappos.com – The world’s most popular shoe selling site is a great bet for a unique costume (especially if you happen to have a shoe fetish … ). For this one you’ll need a piece of wood or super-thick cardboard/posterboard. Then, take several pairs of old shoes (the lighter the better) and glue them to the board – use super glue, or even better, specialty glue from a hardware store. Paint the Zappos logo atop the board, and affix rope around the top to wear it around your neck. Go about your shoe

Facebook wall – Don an all white outfit – preferably leggings and a close fitting shirt. Then, create a variety of fake Facebook status updates (the funnier, the better – think LMAO worthy). Don’t forget the profile photo on the left – and enlarge them to readable size (appx. 15 x 8.5 inches). Cover your torso with the updates (duct tape will work)– and voila! You’ve become a Facebook wall!

Travel Blogger – These folks are easy to spot, with a laptop in one hand and a digital cam in the other. For this costume, you might have all the ingredients in your closet already. Pull together some typical tourist garb – floppy hat, shorts, hiking boots and a Hawaiian shirt. Then cut a fake laptop out of cardboard, wear a backpack, and hang your cam around your neck. You’re set to tackle the world – and blog all about it!

Twitter Bird – Oh ubiquitous Twitter, how we love thee. What better costume this year than the oh-so-beloved micro-blogging tool. The best incarnation of this costume? The Twitter bird. First, obtain a set of pretty blue sweats. Then, cut a round piece of cardboard and paint it light blue – paste it to your stomach. Next, buy a pair of generic white angel wings from a costume store, and spray paint them blue. Lastly, write “TWEET!” in big black letters across the cardboard on your stomach. Twitter bird, tweeting away.

Computer Virus – The virus we tend to dread the most. It seems in this tech dependent world that a computer virus is worse than a real virus! For this grotesque looking costume paint yourself sick looking with green face paint, dark circles under your eyes and messy hair, like you’ve been in the bed for days. J To top off the costume theme, create a computer screen to strap around your mid section and maybe a few add ons…a cord for a tail or paint the mean x eyes face on your computer screen…the one you see before your computer goes kaput.

Languishing MySpace – MySpace – once the hottest social networking site around, now, languishing slowly, losing traffic and market share daily. For this one, just wear a blue t-shirt, and paint on or paste a large printed copy of the MySpace logo. Then, wear jeans, turn your pockets inside out, and walk around with a sad face on all night. Perfecto.

Touch Screen – For those of you who aren’t bashful this is an excellent tech gadget costume everyone would recognize. Create this costume using white 1 inch poster board, iphone app cutouts or ipod touch cutouts approx. 4 inches by inches, roll of clear contact paper and a waist strap or shoulder strap. The costume would stand out if you wore all black. Cut your poster board into the shape of an iphone or ipod touch and glue your app icons to the front. Finish the touch screen by placing your clear contact paper over top. This will give your costume the effect of a real touch screen.

Digg – This popular web site became a sensation over the past 2 years when news sites and sharing apps were included allowing users to not ony “Digg” articles and information but also share what they “dugg” with others on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. To create this costume dress if your most compelling outerware (overalls if you have them), a costruction hard hat (preferably with a light on front) and of course the all essential shovel. Complete the theme of the costume by printing and cutting up logos, brand icons, big words, etc. and tape them on the bottom of your shovel!

Wikipedia – Get ready to do some wiki-ing!! Find all the words you can, print them out, cut them out and tape them to your body. Wear white to be sure you have covered every inch with the illusion of Wikipedia. Try using words that identify our tech savvy crowd. Some that come to mind are; media, advertising, app, gadget, facebook, tweet and bandwidth. Happy hunting!

Wii Gamer – Get your Wii Game Materials Out! If you don’t have any, create some controls using cardboard cut outs and print screens of the controls. Wii Tennis? Put your favorite white tennis outfit on (include the sweatband) and start swinging…at nothing! Wii Golfer? Get out that golf tee and polos and golf where ever you go…with your controllers! Wii everywhere you are!
