You Thought Understanding Women was Hard…Try Figuring Out Their Internet Behavior!

We have compiled some very helpful statistics for all of you trying to figure our average behavior online. How often are we online, how do we search and how we plan to post our status updates? It’s just some of what we’ve gathered for you.

•    42 million U.S. women are online weekly doing some form of social media activity, according to Blogher, iVillage and Compass. Of the 42 million, 55 percent of women participate in some form of blogging activity; 75 percent participate in social networks such as Facebook or MySpace and 20 percent use Twitter.

•    Women are nearly twice as likely to use blogs than social networking sites as a source of information (64%), advice and recommendations (43%) and opinion-sharing (55%), while they are 50 percent more likely to turn to social networking sites as a means of keeping in touch with friends and family (75%) (Blogher study).

•    62.3% of women use the internet as their primary source for information on the products they were considering purchasing, according to a study by Burst Media.

•    51.7% of the women studied use the internet as the primary way to keep in touch with their families, according to a study by Burst Media.

•    Power Moms—women age 25-54 with at least one child—today represent 19.2 percent of the active online population, according to Nielsen.

•    US women between ages 15 and 48 watch TV — and use an internet-connected computer simultaneously — an average of 17.5 minutes per day, according to IMMI.

•    According to M2Moms, 68% of African American mothers are more likely to read articles online, and 45% more likely to listen to music. 45% of Caucasian mothers are likely to frequent social networks, and 43%, message boards. Blogs were the top choice among 55% of Hispanic Moms,  followed by social networks at 42%.
