Smartphones Continue to Spike

Perhaps the 2000s should have been dubbed “the mobile millennium”. In just a decade the majority of Americans have been outfitted with cell phones, and the growth of smartphone devices in the last few years has been astronomical. A new report by eMarketer states that by 2011, more than half of mobile users will be web-enabled.

For marketers, this means more and more consumers will be accessing content via mobile phone. Designing websites and creating content for computers cannot be the main focus anymore, as users continue to look for information on the go.

This means moving past typical WAP pages and ensuring your mobile site is robust and compelling for handheld users. Additionally, almost all smartphone devices are touchscreen, so creating content with fingertips in mind (vs. your old friend, the mouse) will be crucial.

Smartphone Usage

It’s too easy to think with a computer mindset, but as the internet transforms around us, we need to make sure we stay on top of the changing landscape.
