Hulu and PS3 – Mystery No More
For several weeks, there was a mystery surrounding the reasons behind Hulu’s lockout of PS3. Why, users wondered, couldn’t they access their favorite Hulu shows while browsing on their Playstation 3? For awhile, the mystery deepened. No one had an answer. But recently, Hulu responded to the cries of thousands of unhappy viewers and posted a letter addressing the issue.
According to Hulu, the lockout is due to content providers’ objections. Apparently, it’s one thing to stream television content on your computer, but it’s quite another to stream it through your PS3 while it’s hooked up to your TV. For the content providers, that’s just too close to watching regular television.
But many users continue to wonder, what’s the big deal? A monitor is a monitor, whether it’s a computer or television screen. While Hulu’s answer solved this mystery, this case exemplifies an issue that is coming to the forefront . . . the blurry lines between television and internet. Many content providers and television companies are having trouble keeping up with the speed of technology, and so lockouts like this are bound to happen until they begin to look forward and plan ahead.
For users, the answer is simple. They’re going to use whatever tool makes things simplest for them. Customization is king. Companies who embrace this fact will be the ones who come out on top, and who gain loyal and happy customers. Technology moves pretty fast, faster than most of us could ever anticipate.
The answer? Embrace the technological revolution, and think ahead! Every new development brings worlds of new potential and possibilities for companies and consumers.
