Google Launches ‘Instant Search’ to Make Your Queries Even Quicker

In our information-hungry society, apparently a few seconds is too long when it comes to a Google search.  The information monolith rolled out a new tool: Google Instant, which promises to shave 2-5 seconds per search. How will YOU spend your extra 25 seconds a day?

The premise behind Google Instant is that it predicts your search behavior, and begins to show results before you finish typing.

According to Google, the full benefits are:

“Faster Searches: By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.

Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.

Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.”

The tool is not yet live for everyone – so stay tuned until it comes to a computer near you.

*FYI for marketers, this new tool does not change the ranking of search results. However, the suggested search terms might very well change people’s overall choice of terms over time – so rankings are something we’ll need to keep a close eye on.
