Facebook Gives Hulu a Run for Its Money
When it comes to online video viewing, YouTube is the king of the mountain, with Hulu a distant second. Both are designed exclusively for video viewing, and both have loyal audiences and tons of content. But surprisingly, the true king of the online universe – Facebook – is moving on up in this arena, too!
In October, Facebook actually garnered more unique video viewers than Hulu! Hulu came in at 13, 472, while Facebook showed an impressive 31,594. Of course, Hulu beat Facebook mightily in terms of total streams, but it’s still a major leap for a social networking site to beat out an exclusively video site in terms of unique viewers.

This isn’t terrific news for Hulu, along with the recent announcement that Comcast is taking over NBC Universal – which could prove problematic for Hulu, if certain changes take effect.
As ClickZ reported, “Comcast, along with rival ISP/cable provider Time Warner Cable and others, is heavily invested in a project to link subscribers’ cable accounts to online portals. If the experiment, dubbed ‘TV Everywhere’ succeeds, it’ll be curtains for much free ad-supported TV and cable network shows on the Internet.” Which means, much of Hulu’s content would likely be pulled down. Say so long, 30 Rock.
But let’s hope this doesn’t happen. Hulu can still rally … One thing’s for sure, at the moment, Facebook is dominating across the board, basking in the glory of ruling over all social media. 350 million users, beating out Hulu for unique viewers … life is good in Facebook’s world.
