Boarding Passes via Smartphone

As the proportion of users accessing the internet via smartphone continues to skyrocket, airlines are now the latest travel related organizations to get mobile. United Airlines has become the newest airline to offer paperless boarding passes, straight through your handy iPhone or Blackberry, CNN reports.

This new feature by the airline allows travelers to visit mobile.united.com to check in for flights, and then a boarding pass barcode can be scanned by staff at security and while boarding. Of course, passengers stillĀ  have to show identification and follow all usual security procedures, but imagine – no more annoying paper passes! Save a tree, use a Blackberry.

Smartphones

American Airlines was the first to introduce this concept in 2008, and while I haven’t yet had the opportunity to try it, I love the idea. Anything that makes traveling more convenient, and involves fewer complications and less bulk, is fine by me. What else about traveling would you like to see made easier, or mobile-friendly? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
